Bill Helin
Bill is the son of Chief Hy’semass of the Gitgeese tribe from Lax Kw Alaams, B.C. Bill also trained at K’San, B.C.’s well-known Indian Carving School and attended the Gemology Institute of America in California. A versatile artist, Bill enjoys painting, woodcarving and engraving. Whether he works in gold, silver, or on canvas, the legends of his ancestor come alive again. Bill’s designs have been in space-as insignias on the uniforms of the Canadian astronauts aboard the Space Shuttle flight in April 1996.
Eagle
Symbol of power, prestige and wisdom. The Eagle also has a strong connection to peace. Its sacred down represents friendship and its feathers are used for ceremonies and rituals. The Cree consider each feather as having special meaning and distinction.
